As young women in this world, we know that we need to assert our position as leaders and be steadfast in our dedication to the ideals that we value. Within the Maids of Athena, we aim to create a community when young women can hone their leadership skills, learn from their mistakes, and grow into powerful girl bosses.

Becky Angelos Demeris has the distinct honor of being the first Grand President of the Maids of Athena, elected in 1954.

Becky was born in Houston, Texas in 1936. She first became a member of the Maids of Athena in 1952, as her father and mother were both active in the AHEPA Family. Becky hails from Rhodanthi #41 in Delta District #16. She was Chapter Secretary and then moved to the office of Chapter President. In 1988, Becky went on to serve as Grand President of the Daughters of Penelope for one term. As the first Grand President of the Maids, Becky’s leadership and dedication has inspired future generations to continue the work of our Order.

Becky and her late husband, Nick C. Demeris, have always been supporters of the youth orders. Nick was honored posthumously at the Boston Supreme Convention in 2005 recognizing the 50th anniversary of his Supreme Presidency. Becky received the Athenea Award for her years of dedication and service to the Maids. This year marks the 62nd anniversary of her Grand Presidency. She joins us every year at the Supreme Convention during the Installation Ceremony and often honors us by escorting the incoming Maids of Athena Grand President into the room.

As a pioneer for our Order, Becky carved a path that all future leaders, from Chapter members to Grand Lodge members, continue to walk.
